Biography of Boyd Observatories

Many people ask, "Who is Boyd Observatories?"

Boyd Observatories started five years ago, with a simple drawing and an idea for a simple, attractive Observatory that the average amateur astronomer could afford.  The Observatory would be esthetically pleasing to the eye, extremely functional, and suit 90% of all telescopes available on the commercial market.

It's designer, Garry Boyd, joined the Detroit Astronomical Society in 1969.  On Friday nights, Amateur Telescope Makers would gather for their mirror grinding class and telescope making class.  This is where Garry Boyd began building three telescopes.

In 1971 Garry joined the Warren Astronomical Society.  Garry was very active in the club and helped with "Stargate", the club's Observatory.  Together, they revamped the StarLiner Mount and 12 1/2 inch telescope.  Garry also served as editor of the club newspaper, and worked with The Great Lakes Region of The Astronomical League.

After 25 years in Automotive Engineering, Garry was able to put his skills to work to create a high quality Observatory that is affordable to the amateur astronomer.

Garry Boyd's philosophy is clear. "Develop a quality Observatory that is easy to assemble, affordable, and pleasant in appearance."  After two years of careful development, Boyd Observatories believes they have a product which will suit many amateur astronomer's needs.
